Why should you cleanse your skin at night?
Think about it. You’ve been touching your face all day long, without intentionally doing so. Let’s not forget about oil build-up and pollutants from the environment. All the germs from the day are not FESTERING on your skin as you sleep.
Cleansing your skin will remove most germs and eliminate the spread of acne bacteria that can cause increased blemishes.
Cleansing your skin at night will reduce oil and the ability for acne-causing bacteria to thrive inside the pores. This means fewer breakouts!
While you sleep, your skin is at rest allowing regeneration to occur. Removing makeup gives your skin a clean palette for applying your night time performance products for maximum absorption.
How to properly cleanse your skin?
Let’s start with water! For some reason, we feel the hotter the water, the cleaner our skin will get. This is not accurate. Warm water helps lift the dirt out of your skin, but hot water can be too drying. So turn down that hot water.
What kind of cleansers should you use?
Don’t use a harsh cleanser. Consider swapping out soap — which can strip your skin of its natural oils and cause irritation — for a non-soap cleanser. Also, look for cleansers with calming ingredients, like green tea, that will soothe sensitive skin. If you have oily, acne-prone skin, use a face wash with salicylic acid. Cream cleansers are more hydrating, but if you wear a lot of makeup, you might want to use a gel cleanser and/or a makeup remover instead.
How should you apply the cleanser to your face?
Dab a rich, cleansing lotion or cream all over the face and neck. Apply by lightly pressing upward – never down. The delicate skin sags easily enough in time. Massage it gently into the skin in an upward motion. Make sure you keep your eyes closed at all times. Treat your eye area gently. This is the most delicate part of your face. Cleanse with care; blot, never rub.
How to remove the cleanser and germs from your skin?
Use a damp washcloth to remove the cleanser. Make sure you do this in the upward direction.
Simply washing your face at the end of the day could be the easiest way to make your skin look more radiant and have fewer issues like blackheads, pimples, and large pores. Cleansing your skin is the first step to properly restoring it. Commit to cleansing your skin EVERY night. If you struggle with the decision of cleansing your skin or going to sleep, cleanse your skin as soon as you get home. An early cleanse off of all pollutants and germs is always better than no cleanse at all.
